Augen’s $99 Android Netbook

Does a $99 netbook sound too good to be true? Augen’s $99 netbook seems to be popping up in some stores and has created some real buzz around the web. Who would have thought a couple of years ago that a $99 netbook could be even possible. Of course, just like most things, you get what you pay for. Augen’s 7 inch GenBook is not the fastest or most powerful netbook around. In fact, it is really slow. But it can be used as an Internet device.

GenBook has a 400MHz CPU and 128MB of RAM in addition to its 7 inch screen. If it sounds too slow on paper it’s because it really is. This machine could have been among the best laptops on the market maybe 10 years ago but not these days. It’s still nice to see Android show up on these types of devices (even though we are talking about Android 1.6). Just don’t expect to get too much out of GenBook.
