Curious Timing: Droid 2 To Be Launched on June 23rd
So what’s especial about June 23rd? For starters, it is one day before iPhone 4 starts shipping. For Android fans, the day is going to be even more special. After all, Verizon and Motorola are expected to announce the new Droid on that date. Droid 2 or Droid X (depending on the source you go with) is either a minor upgrade to the current Droid or a major one that can go toe to toe with Apple iPhone 4. We tend to believe it will be the latter (which makes the whole Droid-Life story more curious).
According to Engadget, Droid X has a 4.4-inch screen with 854 x 480 resolution, and an 8 megapixel camera. It also features a 1 GHz processor and has an HDMI out port too. Those are very much different from Droid 2 specs that were published by Droid Life.
It is tough to imagine Verizon and Motorola announcing a Droid that is not really that much better than its predecessor. Considering what Apple has introduced, Droid X has a much better chance of competing with it than Droid 2. The timing for the announcement could not be any better though. Just give people who are not sold on iPhone yet another reason to take a look at Android and all the options available to them.
