U.S. Android Phones to Get Android 2.1

The wait for Android 2.1 is finally over for those Android phone owners who happen to live in the U.S. Nexus One was the first phone to take advantage of Android 2.1, but not everyone invested in a Google Nexus One. Motorola Droid Goes Android 2.1

Nothing’s more frustrating than having to wait for a software update when there are other devices that are already taking advantage of the latest version of that software. Well, the wait is finally over for Motorola Droid owners. Android 2.1 is finally making its way to Droid and the software is expected to roll out this week. Motorola made the announcement on its Facebook page:

we know you are frustrated with the lack of details regarding Android software upgrades and we sincerely apologize for not being able to share info sooner. We’re happy to relay the 2.1 upgrade to DROID will start to roll out this week, and we will have more information to share on other device upgrades later

Well, it’s nice to know that the company is actually aware of all the frustrations in regards to Android update program. The update will most likely enable multi-touch capability on Droid. It will also add Google Maps update, Google Goggles, and a few other features that we have already seen on Nexus One. Of course, not all the features from Nexus One will make it to Droid. Worse yet, we don’t know when other Android phones will get this highly anticipated update.

Motorola’s Phones Get Android 2.1

Product Details

Many have been asking about whether their current Android phones would get updates. If you own a Motorola phone, you won’t have to worry about that. Motorola has announced CLIQ, Droid, DEST, and Milestone will all be getting the latest version of Android via a firmware update. Of course, one would hope that we should not have to question which phone is getting an update, but Apple itself has made a habit of charging for major updates (if you are an iPod Touch owner). So I guess it makes sense for Android phone owners to wonder whether they’ll get updates fast and without any fees. To be fair, I haven’t had to pay for any updates on my phone so far, so all is good in that regard.

It’s nice to know that Motorola phones will get the latest Android update soon. Nothing’s worse than having to wait for updates days.
