Are Android Netbooks Here To Stay?

Android used to be considered as a mobile OS. Who would have thought that it’d make it to the netbook world so fast. Fast forward a few months, and we already have a few Android netbooks out or on the way. Acer AOD250-1613 just happens to be one of those (runs on dual boot). But Google is not done with Android. We are going to soon see Google Chrome OS makes it way to ultra mobile PCs and ultimately netbooks. Google intends to change the business model in the operating system business, and Chrome is the perfect solution to do just that.

Google is absolutely right that in the future the lines between smart-phones, ultra mobile PCs, and netbooks are going to be blurred. So it’s not wonder Android and Google Chrome may converge someday:

As [Google VP of product management] Sundar [Pichai] said in his presentation, we’re reaching a perfect storm of converging trends where computers are behaving more like mobile devices, and phones are behaving more like small computer.

Google currently has Android and it’s been a huge success so far. Android currently has over 20 percent of smartphone traffic in the U.S. Considering the fact that we will see more Android netbooks in the near future, the platform is only going to get better. But Chrome is the future. The days of traditional operating systems are numbered and even Microsoft realizes that. Chrome OS has already generated a whole lot of buzz. Who knows what reaction it will get when Google rolls it out. Until then, we’ve got Android to play with.
