Apple’s Bullying Tactics Already Affecting A...

Apple feel threatened by Android and all the handsets that are using the platform. There is no question about that at this point. Most experts believe that it’s Android, and not iPhone OS,  that will start dominating the smart-phone OS market. Apple’s recent lawsuit against HTC has made other smart-phone manufacturers think twice before using multi-touch technologies on their devices. According to CNN Money, Apple has been having discussions about its IPs behind closed doors, and the latest lawsuit is to drive the point home:

Our checks also suggest that these warning shots are meaningfully disrupting the development roadmaps for would-be iPhone killers. Rival software and hardware teams are going back to the drawing board to look for work-arounds. Lawyers are redoubling efforts to gauge potential defensive and offensive responses. And strategy teams are working to chart OS strategies that are better hedged

Apple has a first-hand experience with failed lawsuits in the past, and that is why it has jumped on HTC to send a message to other companies that may be trying to come up with similar Android devices. As Oppenheimer’s Yair Reiner put it, the move is already having effects:

CES: Android Party?

Most experts believed that Android based devices will be one of the main attractions of CES 2010, but it’s simply astonishing to see so many companies jump on Android board or expand their current offerings for this platform. We already know that AT&T has decided to take on Android and WebOS to hedge its bets for the future just in case Apple decides to take the iPhone elsewhere. But that’s not all that’s been happening at the CES. A host of tablets, netbooks, e-book readers, and mobile devices have been announced for Android, and life can’t be any better if you are a supporter of Android platform.

Alex eBook reader may not be as famous as Kindle or Nook, but it certainly got the looks and runs Android (just like Nook). It’s color LCD is reminiscent of what we have seen with Nook and something others will pick up on soon. While Alex is almost a tablet, Dell and Motorola are planning on releasing real tablets to the market.
