Are you a proud owner of the first generation Droid? You are finally going to get the latest Android update on your phone. According to numerous reports, Verizon plans to roll out Android 2.2. updates for Droid phones starting July 13th. Android 2.2 not only offers better performance in comparison to 2.1, it is also better prepared for enterprise. The now lame duck Nexus One started getting the update in late June. So the wait time for Droid owners will not be that long.

Droid’s Incredible Privacy Issue

HTC Droid Incredible may be an incredible phone, but it also seems to have an incredible privacy flaw. Apparently, the phone keeps track of websites you visit and takes screen-shots of even those private sites. These days companies do not seem to get it right when it comes to dealing with their customers/users privacy. First, it was Facebook and its CEO’s glowing comments about what he thought about Facebook users’ privacy. Then we had AT&T’s iPad 3G fiasco. In fact, AT&T managed to get a rare double by exposing customer data to those who tried to pre-order iPhone 4.

Boy Genius Report ran a story on a potential privacy issue that Droid Incredible Owners may have to come to terms with. Droid Incredible takes screen-shots of the websites you visit and stores them as JPG files on your smart-phone. The trouble is, these images are very hard to get rid of when they should be deleted automatically.

Curious Timing: Droid 2 To Be Launched on June 23r...
So what’s especial about June 23rd? For starters, it is one day before iPhone 4 starts shipping. For Android fans, the day is going to be even more special. After all, Verizon and Motorola are expected to announce the new Droid on that date. Droid 2 or Droid X (depending on the source you go with) is either a minor upgrade to the current Droid or a major one that can go toe to toe with Apple iPhone 4. We tend to believe it will be the latter (which makes the whole Droid-Life story more curious).
According to Engadget, Droid X has a 4.4-inch screen with 854 x 480 resolution, and an 8 megapixel camera. It also features a 1 GHz processor and has an HDMI out port too. Those are very much different from Droid 2 specs that were published by Droid Life.

HTC Droid Incredible Available for Pre-Order

Credit: PC World
With all the talks about iPhone HD leaks and Apple, people are forgetting that there are some very decent Android phones on their way out. HTC Droid Incredible is one of those phones. The device is available on pre-order through Verizon and is going for about $200 with a 2 year contract. And it’s coming by the end of April. The reactions to the device have been quite positive so far. Engadget’s Joshua Topolsky certainly couldn’t hide his amusement with the device:
Let’s just put this out there: the Droid Incredible is the best Android device that you can purchase in America right now. It’s better than the Droid, better than the Nexus One, and certainly beats the pants off of any previous generation handsets like the Eris, myTouch, or Cliq.
That’s obviously an opinion, but it’s very hard to argue. We are still waiting for Droid 2 and next generation Nexus One, but HTC Droid is up there with the best smart-phones on the market today (at least on the paper).

Droid Android 2.1 Update On Its Way
If you are a Droid owner, there is a good chance you have become frustrated with all the time it has taken the company to roll out Android 2.1 update for your phone. The company was expected to get the job done a while ago, but it seems the process is going to take longer than expected. Motorola took advantage of its page on Facebook to announce the bad news (sugar coating it a bit too):

Perhaps what was more eye opening was some of the responses that were posted on Motorola’s page. That’s what happens when you create a new communication channel by taking advantage of the social media. Many Motorola fans blamed the company for being too slow with the process. Some even threatened to get rid of their device if the update does not include all the features that they have been waiting for.
