Android 2.1 Is Still King, for now
Android 2.2 may be well on its way to HTC Droid Incredible and Motorola Droid X, but many Android phone owners are still using Android 2.1, according to the information released by Google. Android fragmentation has been dogging Google and its popular platform. While the problem still exists, there are signs that things may be getting better (if only Google could find a way to co-ordinate its updates in a more organized fashion).

Froyo To Debut, Android Music Store Takes on iTune...

Google is going all in with the latest edition of Android. The platform will not only have a few advantages over iPhone OS, Google is putting pressure on Apple by adopting Adobe Flash on Android platform. Froyo supports tethering and Wi-Fi hot-spot functionality on Android phones. Multi-tasking is a no brainer (something that Apple still hasn’t pulled off, though it has taken a step in the right direction with iPhone OS 4). Let’s not forget that Android is an open platform with plenty of open software solutions. That’s something iPhone owners do not get .
Froyo and Google TV are not the only things Apple will need to worry about. Google plans to take on iTunes with a store of its own. The acquisition of music streaming service Simplify Media should help too. Android phone owners will be able to stream music from their desktop computers to their mobile phones. Simplify’s mobile phone seems to be only available for Android phones (what did you expect?).

Apple and AT&T still can’t bring tethering to iPhone, so this feature should give smart-phone shoppers yet another reason to go for an Android phone instead of iPhone.
